RESEARCH & WRITING FELLOW

Full time / Temp-to-Hire

AAPF is seeking an enthusiastic Research and Writing Fellow to join our team! This full-time position is a temporary remote role with the potential to transition into an in-office permanent role. The Research and Writing Fellow will contribute to newsletters, op-eds, speeches, and descriptions related to the African American Policy Forum’s, Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw’s, and the Center for Intersectionality and Social Policy Studies’ (CISPS) ongoing international and domestic projects, intersectional issues, policy development, and media coverage.

The Ideal Candidate should have:

  • Scholarly understanding of Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality

  • Familiarity with Kimberlé Crenshaw's work

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • A legal and/or social science background

  • Experience in multidisciplinary research 

  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic environment

 

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Full participation in brainstorming sessions with the AAPF team;

  • Preparing communications, such as memos, emails, newsletters, reports, and other correspondence;

  • Contributing to various ongoing AAPF projects including #SayHerName campaign, Under the Blacklight webinar series, Black Girls Matter report, AAPF blog and statements, and other AAPF programming;

  • Supporting the Executive Director and other leadership for various projects such as speech writing, media appearance preparation, op-eds, bi-monthly column in The New Republic, and forthcoming books;

  • Serving as project lead for tasks related to AAPF campaigns and initiatives.

Application Process:

Hourly compensation commensurate with experience.  Transition to salaried role after completion of probationary period.
