FELLOW

AAPF is seeking an enthusiastic Research and Writing Fellow to join our team! The Research and Writing Fellow will contribute to newsletters, op-eds, speeches, and descriptions related to the African American Policy Forum’s, Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw’s, and the Center for Intersectionality and Social Policy Studies’ (CISPS) ongoing international and domestic projects, intersectional issues, policy development, and media coverage. This is a one to year remote fellowship reporting directly to the Senior Research and Writing Fellow. Note: This remote role has the potential to transition into a hybrid or full time in-office role.

Founded in 1996, The African American Policy Forum (AAPF) is an innovative think tank that connects academics, activists, and policy-makers to promote efforts to dismantle structural inequality. We utilize new ideas and innovative perspectives to transform public discourse and policy. We promote frameworks and strategies that address a vision of racial justice that embraces the intersections of race, gender, class, and the array of barriers that disempower those who are marginalized in society. AAPF is dedicated to advancing and expanding racial justice, gender equality, and the indivisibility of all human rights, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Full participation in brainstorming sessions with the AAPF team;

  • Preparing communications, such as memos, emails, newsletters, reports, and other correspondence;

  • Contributing to various ongoing AAPF projects including #SayHerName campaign, Under the Blacklight webinar series, Black Girls Matter report, AAPF blog and statements, and other AAPF programming; and

  • Supporting the Executive Director and other leadership for various projects such as speech writing, media appearance preparation, and op-eds.

 

The Ideal Candidate should have:

  • Scholarly understanding of Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality

  • Familiarity with Kimberlé Crenshaw's work

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • A legal and/or social science background

  • Experience in multidisciplinary research 

  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic environment

Salary will be commensurate with experience falling within the range of $45,000-$55,000.
